With people from different nationalities, race, gender, and sexual preferences at work, the stereotypes at workplaces tend to be similar to the ones in the general society. Stereotypes do not necessarily have to involve harassments, even the belief about someone just because of their status or race is the same. For the society to grow, all these stereotypes have to be broken, and this is something that will require not just the self-will, but also a lot of determination. Here are some tips on how you can dismantle the preconceptions everywhere.
The first stereotypes are work are the ones that feel like you do not deserve equal pay even when you have the qualifications, just because of your gender or race, and this is a characteristic of many American stereotypes. You have to demand that you deserve, through negotiating for better salaries and benefits, asking for more responsibilities and skills, knowledge and generally what you deserve. Others may feel that you are not determined or aggressive enough, and these you shut down by taking charge of your goals and growth.

To take go further in your careers, you have to let such people know that you are capable and willing to fight for your rightful place. You should expect some negative sentiments when you start getting the authority and the success from the people that never thought that you would actually get there, and remember that it is lonely at the top. Having a new status, you have the chance and the power to fight the negativity. It is better when the status that is discriminated to rise as a team and this, therefore, means that you should support your people.

People usually assume that you are comfortable with their thinking and discrimination if you are not vocal about the new idea, things that you feel are wrong and can offer solution among other things. When you belong to the minority team, it is easy to fall under pressure and try to change so that you can fit in, and this is just letting the people intimidating you win. Not all stereotypes are negative, and in this journey, you will have to honest and trustworthy so that you do not seem like you have an ulterior motive. This is how you gain the support of people that think like you. This is a journey that you will have to choose to embark on despite the setbacks because the feeling of satisfaction and success are totally worth it in the end.
